Threadmine.

E series Vs B Series , well EA-ED shouldnt be in the same category as EF-EL, EA-ED drive like buckets compared to EF-ELs so much smoother and steady you can feel they have a much more rigid chassis, Better steering geometry. BA-BF's Don't like the styling... Interiors are cheap, Door Handle moulds fall off, They creek and front ends get clunky etc. Although A BF MKII Fairmont Ghia is a Gorgeous looking car. I drive an EF Fairmont now and love it. But when its got too much mileage on it, F series is where its at. FG G6E mmmmmmmmmmmmm Horn.

Its all about personal preference. I like the BA-FGs alot, but every farmer and their mum has one around here. Not many EA-EDs done nicely.
I just wanted something different, that would stand out!

Unfortunately carsales.com disagrees with ef's having good steering.

'There can be no doubt that many drivers scared themselves in EF Falcons. The EF was developed by a committee. Indeed, the front and rear suspension systems felt as if they were designed for different cars.

Great emphasis was given to refinement and this meant softer bushings were used in the front suspension to tune out as much noise and harshness as possible. Much of the work that had gone into making the EB and ED such accurate and predictable handling cars was lost in the pursuit of silence.

The EF turned into a corner quite well and then you felt as if you had to unwind a little lock as the roll oversteer kicked in; any correlation between the front suspension and the rear was coincidental.

The XRs were better but still not right. The cheapest versions on lesser tyres were nasty. In inexpert hands and especially on a wet road, the EF could quite easily swap ends. Many did.'

Why would you bother digging up this thread? What a fucking idiotic thing to do. You've already started/joined in or continued arguments in other threads, what do you hope to achieve?

EA-ED drive like shit do they? Maybe if you owned one with a set of shocks that weren't around when muhammad was in nappies and bushes that had been changed at some stage since the invention of the wheel you'd think differently. It's pretty easy to rag on cars that are 250+ thousand km old - I can't wait to see what your precious all-conquering shiny new cars look and drive like with a quarter of a million km under their belt.

Any car that has been treated like sh1t will drive like sh1t, it's not a hard thing to understand.

Buy what you want, be happy with it and SHUT THE FU(K UP ABOUT IT FOR FUCKS SAKE!

Even if it did drive nicer, I'd prob take the EF because I'd be looking at a dash that was designed by CAD rather than with pencils, t squares and protractors.

yeah that is true, EA-ED have aged woefully, Look like something from the 80's EF/ELs still look quite modern. Although I do have a soft spot for the EB-ED, seeing as I have owned 5 of them. The EA-ED have a more tough look, EF/EL more luxury. , The extra refinement and features of the later models ef/el is alot. There's no doubt there a better car, They are newer.

Thats why i like EF2 Wagons, all the steering and "rollover" feel was gone, still had the nice front end (read EL) and can be redlined easily. I only found out how well the wagon can be redlined tonight when i was just putting it away, revved strong and hard (engine was warm during this exercise)

So i can say that out of B-Series and E-series, i will choose a CLASSIC, not plastic, EF2 Wagon

Ohh yeah, thats another thing that i just remembered, the B-series and FG's are all plastic, unlike the E-series (Excluding EL as i hate it full stop lol)

I can comment on the ED vs EF. I had an ED XR6 that was a fukking brilliant car. I also had an EF Mont, and that was the worst car I've ever driven! Also, IMHO I'd rather a dash that was designed with CAD, pencils etc than the prior dash having been heated to a point where it seems to flow into an EF/L Dash!

I've had a few EF's and EL's, maybe 20 :P Each of them had aged differently - depending on the level of care the owners previous to me had put in to the servicing and maintaining of them.

EA-ED's on the other hand, didn't really matter how good or bad they'd been serviced, they were pretty much all the same :P EA's are pretty chat, EB2 onwards were WAYYYY better than EA. Little improvements like the intake snorkel and rubber duct revisions made the engine quieter and smoother, along with things like fatter tie rods, wider rear trailing arm bushes, foam filled pillars - the list goes on.

I will say that with my familys Exerience with Falcons, The BA is the worst one we have had. We own a smallish taxi companey with 10 Falcons. 8 AUs and 2 BAs currently.
Being taxis. We only have Base models. no XRs or Monts. Mom misses being able to use the old EF/ELs that she had. they were cheaper to buy, fix and run. Now the AU has taken that job. the first BA was $8,500 and so far its cost about $3,500 in repairs.

The AUs have greater cost/km then the BA. so moms Avoiding using Ba's until the AUs are no longer allowed as taxis.

haha no worries.

and Im not to sure if the wagons diff's are the same as the AU wagon. but I got a mate who has blown 3 diffs in his BA sedan since he got it 3 years ago.

The wagons we have seem to do Heaters, transmissions, brakes, headlight bulbes and the handbrakes. They also have a really annoying low rpm power steering growl and shutter.

im noticing a lack of low rpm power in my au at the moment too. Im thinking I may be losing compression through a head gasket so ill do a test tomorrow to find out. Although I have never done one before so I dont know if you can even lose enough compression to be noticeable in performance.

The point I was making, which you entirely missed, was that E-series cars are now OLD. People shit on them for driving like crap but they don't seem to take into account the fact they are now 15-20 years old and most of them have had extremely minimal maintenance once they got out of warranty. With new bushes, a matched spring/shock set and a proper wheel alignment (just as you'd expect to do on any older model car) the difference is chalk and cheese.

At no point did I talk about my car at all.

You should be happy I referenced muhammad too - in doing so I admitted his existence :)

I owned a pretty well kept ED once. Two fanatic owners, 180,000km - anything that even half looked fucked was replaced. Michelin tyres and everything! It was hardly an awe inspiring drive.

So Gill and I turbo'd it - then it shit the head gasket and started leaking lots of oil like an E-Series should :P

Admittedly though, standard ED's have a much more solid feel up the front than a stock height EF/EL, but for some reason EF/EL V8's are better again. Must be the weight up the front I guess.

B-Series are fucking MILES ahead and don't even deserve the comparing.

I should know. I've only owned and driven around 50,000 of each.

I've done about 30,000km in B-Series now. Only thing that's gone wrong is a turbo stud and nut falling out in one of them, but Rips has blown an auto and a diff cover.

i dont think you can compare the 2. as said e series (some eseries :P ) are old, b series are new.

people will always love there ea's or that and cant/wont see that b series are nice cars.

personally id rather spend a bit more and have a ba xr6t pushing 300+ rwkw , heater that works, drives nice, good headlights ect ect than spending big money on a turbo eseries and be worried about always getting pulled over.

end of the day this wil never ever ever get to an end. always some kunt with an opinion :epicfight:

Thing is there's people here who actually think that EA-ED's are BETTER to have than a B-Series. Like they'll actually say things that are absurd in order to attempt to prove a point. I am fond of both, but I prefer the B-Series for a LOT of reason's - mainly practicality.

I'd still do up an EA-ED, but probably wont for a long time because you need a lot of money to make them something special and not just another hack.

2 years and 50,000km on my ba, only thing i ever had to replace was a rhf wheel bearing... and just for the sake of it said my diff was whining before my warranty ran out everything else was just changed cos i wanted to change it...
kesters ba about 1 year and 70,000km 1 oil change in that time, still hasnt actually broken anything other than 2 swaybar mounts and needs diff bushes replacing and an auto which shit itself at about 160,000km after donuts on mt donna
in other words +1 to ba's
if i could find a nice condition XT for 6k or under with less than 130ish k's id buy another as they make very comfy dailys.... (just add SL/SSL and swaybars to chop out that nice mint XT body roll and dipping under braking etc etc)
